About the University of Toronto Consulting Association

The University of Toronto Consulting Association (UTCA) is a student run organization that aims to connect UofT students with professional consulting firms. UTCA hosts several events throughout the school year that allow students to gain exposure to the consulting world.

2009-2010 Executive Team

The 2009-2010 UTCA executives has been working since the summer to build on last year's successes and add even more great events.

Elika Mahdavi
  • Co-President
  • 4th year Industrial Engineering student specializing in Operations Research
  • Elika recently completed a one year internship at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Toronto within their Global Operations division
  • She has been involved with UTCA for the past three years. From 2006-2007 she was part of a Volunteer Consulting Group team that developed a national marketing strategy for Safe Kids Canada. During 2007-2008 Elika was Vice President Internal of UTCA, and later served as Vice President Professional Events from 2008-2009
  • In her spare time, Elika is involved with engineering student government at the national level, intercollegiate debating, and occasional acting
  • She loves theatre, going to the movies, tennis, and skiing

Kevin Davis
  • Co-President
  • 4th year Mechanical Engineering student
  • Recently completed a 16-month Professional Experience Year Internship at MCW Consultants; an engineering consulting firm that provides conceptual design and project management solutions worldwide
  • Last year, Kevin served as the Vice President Marketing for UTCA. From 2007-2008, Kevin was involved with a Volunteer Consulting Group team to develop long term strategies for 'The Gatehouse' that focused on organizational management and improved community image to help them reach their fundraising goals for expansion and sustainability
  • Past work experiences include being a lifeguard and swimming instructor for both recreational and competitive purposes
  • Kevin is also involved with a student run Mixed Martial Arts Club at the University of Toronto, instructing classes on the art of Judo and grappling
  • Hobbies include: Running regularly, weight training, soccer, swimming and salsa dancing

Angel Liang
Vice President

  • Vice President Finance
  • 3rd year Rotman Commerce student specializing in Finance and Economics
  • Also involved with the Rotman Commerce Finance Association as the Director of Internal Affairs and previously as the Director of Marketing
  • Currently works as a Lab Asistant at the Rotman Financial Research and Trading Lab
  • Previous work experience includes internships in the hotel industry and at the Royal Bank of Canada as a Business Development Associate
  • Hobbies include reading, listening to music, dancing, and watching movies

Yi Luo
Vice President Internal

  • Vice President Internal
  • 2nd year Rotman Commerce student specializing in Finance and Economics with a Minor in French as a second language
  • As a first year student, she gained first-hand experience with consulting as a member for a Volunteer Consulting Group team to rejuvenate Vaughan Youth Cabinet, a youth activism organization. Overcoming unforseeable difficulties and solving problems confirmed her interest in consulting
  • Past work experience includes working as a Language Interpreter for Special Olympics, and a Tour Guide for Luxun's former residence in Shanghai
  • Also involved with the University of Toronto Peer Tutoring and Frontier College where she teaches adult ESL as a volunteer
  • Loves reading, travelling, and learning anything new especially languages and badminton

Mohammad Emani
Vice President

  • Vice President Marketing
  • 4th year Engineering Science student specializing in Manufacturing Systems
  • Mohammad recently completed a Professional Experience Year internship at Unilever Canada as an Improvement Engineering Intern focusing on optimizing processes and developing a master plan strategy for a Dry Savoury food plant
  • Previously worked an an intern for a European asset management company
  • When not hard at work, he enjoys playing soccer and is an avid follower of Liverpool Football Club

Wendy Pan
Vice President

  • Vice President Marketing
  • 4th Year Rotman Commerce Student
  • Work experience includes an internship with Deloitte & Touche as a Staff Accountant/Analyst and with Canadian International Student Services as an office manager
  • She has an extensive involvement with Rotman Commerce. Last year, she was a Peer Mentor for a group of first year commercce students, the Speakers Director for enVision Conference, and a Senior Project Manager with Rotman Commerce SIFE. She has also attended many business and model United Nations conferences in many other universities across North America
  • Wendy enjoys thinking about business ideas. She and her two teammates entered the PolyU Global Entrpreneurship challenge in 2009 and qualified for the final competition in Hong Kong to complete with the top 30 teams in the world
  • In her leisure time, she plays piano, table tennis, watches basketball games, and likes to ride the Behemoth in Canada's Wonderland

Anna Sheu
Vice President
Professional Events

  • Vice President Professional Events
  • 3rd year Industrial Engineering student currently on a Professional Experience Year with Deloitte & Touche in Enterprise Risk Services
  • Last year, she served as the Vice President Internal and oversaw the organization and execution of UTCA’s annual Business Case Competition
  • From 2007-2008, Anna was part of a Volunteer Consulting Group team that investigated the logistics of a speaking tour for ideaNation. In addition, they provided recommendations regarding marketing, budget, implementation and organizational growth
  • Past work experience includes being a Research Student in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department in the area of microfluidics, and as a Business Analyst for Canadian Tire Corporation in Supply Chain Major Projects
  • Anna is involved in events within engineering particularly with the Industrial Engineering Discipline Club
  • In her spare time, Anna enjoys reading, and watching and playing sports including: hockey, badminton, biking, basketball, tennis and swimming

Jegan Kanaganayakam
Vice President
Volunteer Consulting Group

  • Vice President Volunteer Consulting Group
  • 4th year Mechanical Engineering student
  • Jegan recently completed a Professional Experience Year internship at Research in Motion as a Project Specialist where he worked on process optimization initiatives and product management across the software department
  • Past work experiences include working with Communications and Power Industries as a Mechanical Designer in the Engineering Services Department. Jegan also had the opportunity to work on a number of projects related to re-designing the central database structure.
  • He has been involved with UTCA since 2007 when he worked in a Volunteer Consulting Group team to conduct a complete feasibility analysis for a digital distribution network for the Documentary Organisation of Canada's digital distribution network. Last year, he also served as the Vice President Volunteer Consulting Group
  • In his spare time, Jegan enjoys tutoring as well as playing basketball, soccer, and badminton.

Daniela Miao
Vice President
Volunteer Consulting Group

  • Vice President Volunteer Consulting Group
  • 3rd year Engineering Science student majoring in the Electrical and Computer option
  • Last year, Daniela was involved with a VCG team to develop marketing strategies for rabble.ca, that entailed creating different plans to attract more readership and maintain a constant source of sustainable income
  • Past work experience includes being an Engineering Assistant for a design engineering company and researching Internet security with a university professor
  • Daniela is also the Sports Director for the Chinese Engineering Student Association where she organizes many sports events that a held on campus for their members
  • Hobbies include soccer, tennis, reading, and occasional gaming

Gaurav Maken
VP Communication
  • Vice President Communication
  • 4th year Computer Engineering student specializing in Software and Communications
  • Recently completed a 12-month Professional Experience Year Internship at Qualcomm California, a leading Telecommunication Company and owner of CDMA Technologies
  • Also involved with Professional Development of undergrad engineers at University of Toronto
  • Past work experiences include sales and operation for a home based catering business and an internship at Research In Motion Ltd.
  • Hobbies include: Biking, Traveling, Reading and Cooking
